Hey, I’m Mel G from the Northern Suburbs in Melbourne, a Nationally Recognised Nutritionist (Nutr.) / Sports Nutrition Adviser with the National Council of Australia, who wants to educate people that healthy eating is not about restricting food they love from their life, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Reason.

Why am I so passionate about educating people around food and nutrition? Well, there are so many myths especially on social media platforms these days, that people read + believe, which can be unsafe to your health. A huge one for me is FAD DIETS! The Truth is they are a calorie deficit in disguise. Education is Key - once you understand the foundation, a diet will no longer be restricting foods from your life +  perspective comes into play towards healthy eating/lifestyle.

The Facts.

So Let’s Talk Facts…  

Energy is the body’s fuel in order for us to live. Your body produces energy from the foods you eat and in turn, exchanges this food for the function of each Cell, Organ + Nerve. Your body also needs a certain amount of energy to function, then requires more energy again to allow you to go about doing your day to day activities, such as live + work. This energy is dispensable, so once your cells, organs + nerves use this energy, it then needs to be restored. This all depends on how much your body does in a day, as to how much energy it will need use, in a day.

Facts are, is that we need food from Macronutrients such as Carbohydrates, Fat + Proteins, so that when digestion occurs + breaks the food down, the Macronutrients produce a certain amount of energy. In other words,  when weight loss is achieved as a result of energy consumed vs energy used, it is impossible for Carbohydrates alone being the sole cause of weight gain… (fact).

Therefore, ‘No carb/Low carb’ diets or any ‘Fad Dieting’ in general, is false + misleading, which deplete our glycogen stores. So when our body needs Carbohydrates for energy, it draws from our glycogen stores = glucose/carbs - our main source of energy.

Tips to stay fuller for longer.

Ensure daily, you are including Protein, Fibre + Healthy Fats in every meal (breakfast especially),   as this will help keep your energy + concentration. Also be sure it is lean + of high quality!

Don’t forget to include Soluble + Insoluble Fibre.

AND Lastly… Avoid Highly Processed Foods.
